Ticket Prices
« on: June 06, 2002, 12:05:34 AM »
Just curious to see what people think of this years lift ticket prices at various resorts.

Keep in mind that a % of the ticket price is GST and some of it goes towards making that funny white stuff which can cost up to a $1000 per hour to make!

Easy for me to say. I buy a seasons ticket each year.

But as with any business its not easy to understand the costings until you have to manage them.

Ticket prices havn't gone  through the roof over the last few years and the extra expense of snow making and a string of poor seasons must make balancing the budget difficult.

I remember back in 89 when i first moved to Jindabyne, tickets where $33 for the then brand new Mt Blue Cow...admittedly GST has come into the equasion and Blue Cow is now part of Perisher Blue but tickets are now $77

Thats a big increase in anyones terms!

My first trip to Buller(not with my parents)
Ticket was $12 with Orange Lifts and ski hire from Bill Duffs was $7 a day.
$3 for my share of the car pool petrol and $3 for drinks and chips in Mansfield on the way home (couldn't afford to eat on the mountain)
Total $25.00 for the day equalled 40% of my weeks wage.
Was also equal to 23% of an adults basic wage.

Ah the old SkiData ticket system...it was actually a good system it just wasnt setup quite right...

The only reason they got rid of it at the time was because BlueCow had bought Guthega Resort and would of cost too much money to install it over there....

Hey sleddog did you go up there in 88 when they had the old bus running up the skitube (cause the line wasnt finished)????

God that was an adventure in itself....

I always thought the brakes would fail on the way down! :o
