Back from Thredbo
« on: July 06, 2003, 02:31:42 PM »
So much to tell....so little time.
Our week in Thredbo has sadly come to an end :'( but what a week we had. All the boys learnt to snow board and now believe themselves to be pros. I had not skiied in 20 years...and it was like riding a bike, you never forget how. We had 5 days of brilliant sunshine and it even snowed one morning so we could catch some flakes. The trade off was very little snow.....all man made for skiing. At our level this was not a problem, but many runs were either closed or much harder than they should be....lots of ice, grass.
For the money conscious. We had goulash for $7.50 at the base of Friday Flats...filling and hot.
Best hot chocolate at the  base of Merrits (outside cafe) with whipped cream $3.90. My favourite run was the ballroom at Merrits (remember I am a beginner) One small patch of ice but the rest was a great run.
Favourite meal....$28, T-Bar, Thredbo Village,  Atlantic salmon steak  with preserved lemon risotto cake and fresh asparagus.
Loved taking the chairlifts DOWN the mountains...bit like a ride at a theme park the way they speed up and shoot off the hill....yipeeeeee
Happy to answer any other questions.....
Enjoy your snow trips...
Just me and that's enough !

Well I am hopefully heading back for another week in August (minus the kids this time)
Any ideas on good value places to stay at Perisher ?
We loved our Mowamba apartment at Thredbo.
Which resort has the better beginners slopes, Thredbo or Perisher ?
And where on earth do you get hot choc for $1 ???

hi tuttsy go to smiggins holes its a part of perisher and it is a GREAT little hill to play around on and its not intimidating like some hills and the front valley at perisher has a new 8 saeter life and it easy to ride from what ive heard .
if your going for a week at perisher there is good accomadation around .
smiggins hotel is 10 out if 10 in my book , its around $870 twin share ,peak season.with meals- no lunch.
you are going to pay around 870 for accomadation on snow.
and just down the road 15 minutes form perisher is
the SKI RIDER HOTEL and its ok you get 5 nights and meals and lifts for 955 all up.pp
i have to go i will post again tommorrow
